Investing.com – Germany equities were mixed at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Insurance, Chemicals and Construction sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Retail, Transportation & Logistics and Consumer & Cyclical sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX gained 2.18%, while the MDAX index gained 1.25%, and the TecDAX index lost 0.04%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (DE:VOWG_p), which rose 3.98% or 5.100 points to trade at 133.400 at the close. Bayer AG NA (DE:BAYGN) added 3.23% or 2.730 points to end at 87.150 and Allianz SE VNA O.N. (DE:ALVG) was up 3.05% or 4.200 points to 141.900 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (DE:LHAG), which added 0.36% or 0.045 points to trade at 12.495 in late trade. Adidas AG NA O.N. (DE:ADSGN) added 0.66% or 0.750 points to end at 114.800 and Deutsche Post AG NA O.N. (DE:DPWGn) gained 0.69% or 0.180 points to 26.125.
The top performers on the MDAX were Salzgitter AG O.N. (DE:SZGG) which rose 4.26% to 26.655, Covestro AG (DE:1COV) which was up 3.61% to settle at 35.745 and Hannover Rueckversicherung SE (DE:HNRGn) which gained 3.18% to close at 99.200.
The worst performers were Evonik Industries AG (DE:EVKn) which was down 3.67% to 26.000 in late trade, Zalando SE (DE:ZALG) which lost 2.36% to settle at 26.73 and STADA Arzneimittel VNA O.N. (DE:STAGn) which was down 1.31% to 43.625 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Siltronic AG (DE:WAFGn) which rose 5.16% to 16.300, Morphosys AG O.N. (DE:MORG) which was up 4.36% to settle at 49.495 and Jenoptik AG O.N. (DE:JENG) which gained 2.24% to close at 14.145.
The worst performers were Drillisch AG O.N. (DE:DRIG) which was down 2.61% to 37.000 in late trade, Wirecard AG (DE:WDIG) which lost 1.79% to settle at 40.265 and Qiagen NV (DE:QGEN) which was down 1.73% to 18.770 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 691 to 207 and 24 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 8.44% to 20.84.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was down 1.72% or 21.50 to $1230.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.96% or 0.46 to hit $48.54 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.43% or 0.21 to trade at $48.56 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.70% to 1.1143, while EUR/GBP fell 1.63% to 0.7621.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.39% at 95.60.
