Investing.com – Brazil stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Financials, Public Utilities and Electric Power sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa lost 2.65%.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3), which rose 4.43% or 0.24 points to trade at 5.66 at the close. Meanwhile, Vale SA (SA:VALE3) added 2.15% or 0.42 points to end at 19.91 and Vale SA (SA:VALE5) was up 1.02% or 0.16 points to 15.79 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Companhia Brasileira deDistribuicao (SA:PCAR4), which fell 6.97% or 4.20 points to trade at 56.08 at the close. CPFL Energia SA (SA:CPFE3) declined 7.64% or 1.24 points to end at 15.00 and Cia Energetica de Minas Gerais (SA:CMIG4) was down 5.90% or 0.44 points to 7.02.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 208 to 91 and 14 ended unchanged.
Shares in Companhia Brasileira deDistribuicao (SA:PCAR4) fell to 3-years lows; falling 6.97% or 4.20 to 56.08. Shares in CPFL Energia SA (SA:CPFE3) fell to 52-week lows; falling 7.64% or 1.24 to 15.00. Shares in Cia Energetica de Minas Gerais (SA:CMIG4) fell to 5-year lows; losing 5.90% or 0.44 to 7.02.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 3.68% to 48.97.
Gold for December delivery was up 1.94% or 21.70 to $1138.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 4.26% or 2.00 to hit $44.90 a barrel, while the December US coffee C contract rose 0.02% or 0.03 to trade at $118.28 .
USD/BRL was up 1.24% to 3.9470, while EUR/BRL rose 0.03% to 4.4590.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.79% at 95.38.
