Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Energy, Materials and Mining sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 2.24%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were TORC Oil & Gas Ltd. (TO:TOG), which rose 12.22% or 0.70 points to trade at 6.43 at the close. Meanwhile, Bonterra Energy Corp (TO:BNE) added 12.14% or 2.23 points to end at 20.60 and Canadian Oil Sands Limited (TO:COS) was up 11.95% or 0.73 points to 6.84 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Western Forest Products Inc (TO:WEF), which fell 1.67% or 0.03 points to trade at 1.77 at the close. Concordia Healthcare (TO:CXR) declined 1.59% or 1.54 points to end at 95.11 and Restaurant Brands Intl (TO:QSR) was down 1.24% or 0.61 points to 48.74.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 855 to 501 and 193 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 4.71% to 22.66.
Gold for December delivery was up 1.49% or 16.40 to $1119.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 5.99% or 2.67 to hit $47.26 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 4.52% or 2.16 to trade at $49.91 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.54% to 0.7590, while CAD/EUR rose 0.42% to 0.6727.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.28% at 95.49.
