Investing.com – Brazil stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Industrials, Basic Materials and Real Estate sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa declined 1.52% to hit a new 5-year low.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Estacio Participacoes SA (SA:ESTC3), which rose 8.51% or 1.06 points to trade at 13.52 at the close. Meanwhile, Braskem SA (SA:BRKM5) added 7.02% or 1.82 points to end at 27.75 and Oi SA (SA:OIBR3) was up 2.50% or 0.06 points to 2.46 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4), which fell 12.93% or 0.19 points to trade at 1.28 at the close. JBS SA (SA:JBSS3) declined 9.17% or 1.05 points to end at 10.40 and Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5) was down 8.96% or 0.12 points to 1.22.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 188 to 100 and 5 ended unchanged.
Shares in Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4) fell to 5-year lows; falling 12.93% or 0.19 to 1.28. Shares in Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5) fell to 5-year lows; losing 8.96% or 0.12 to 1.22.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 1.04% to 45.61.
Gold for February delivery was up 1.34% or 14.50 to $1092.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 5.63% or 2.02 to hit $33.95 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract fell 2.74% or 3.38 to trade at $119.62 .
USD/BRL was up 0.60% to 4.0312, while EUR/BRL rose 0.91% to 4.3477.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.16% at 99.30.
