Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Banking and Metals sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 1.25% to hit a new 6-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 1.29%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO), which rose 2.01% or 2.45 points to trade at 124.20 at the close. UPL Ltd (NS:UPLL) added 0.53% or 2.95 points to end at 562.05 and HDFC Bank Ltd (NS:HDBK) was up 0.56% or 6.17 points to 1101.05 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Yes Bank Ltd (NS:YESB), which lost 15.76% or 10.10 points to trade at 54.10 in late trade. Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE) declined 7.83% or 26.25 points to end at 308.85 and Indiabulls Housing Finance Ltd (NS:INBF) shed 4.59% or 19.25 points to 394.75.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which rose 1.97% to 124.25, Tata Motors Ltd DVR (BO:TAMdv) which was up 1.43% to settle at 56.90 and HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which gained 0.63% to close at 1100.40.
The worst performers were Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which was down 15.52% to 54.15 in late trade, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which lost 3.66% to settle at 344.95 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was down 3.59% to 1281.95 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1217 to 342 and 72 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1731 fell and 673 advanced, while 114 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 1.29% to 15.5500.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.74% or 11.15 to $1504.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 2.05% or 1.19 to hit $59.23 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 2.64% or 1.68 to trade at $65.28 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.27% to 71.320, while EUR/INR rose 0.59% to 78.9085.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.25% at 97.890.
