Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Transport, Chemical and Food sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.02%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Konami Corp. (T:9766), which rose 4.86% or 280.0 points to trade at 6040.0 at the close. Toshiba Corp. (T:6502) added 3.35% or 8.8 points to end at 271.2 and Nippon Suisan Kaisha, Ltd. (T:1332) was up 3.21% or 19.0 points to 610.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma Co Ltd (T:4506), which lost 2.46% or 42.0 points to trade at 1662.0 in late trade. Daiwa House Industry Co., Ltd. (T:1925) declined 2.36% or 88.0 points to end at 3633.0 and Taisei Corp. (T:1801) shed 2.15% or 21.0 points to 953.5.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1807 to 1157 and 386 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 1.40% to 14.51.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for July delivery was down 0.68% or 0.33 to $47.86 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in August fell 0.78% or 0.39 to hit $49.73 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.13% or 1.65 to trade at $1295.85 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.17% to 109.22, while EUR/JPY fell 0.37% to 122.92.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.12% at 96.62.
