Investing.com – Germany equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Consumer & Cyclical, Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare and Food & Beverages sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX fell 0.35%, while the MDAX index fell 0.62%, and the TecDAX index lost 0.57%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Prosiebensat 1 Media AG (DE:PSMGn), which rose 1.27% or 0.455 points to trade at 36.320 at the close. Henkel & Co KGaA AG Pref (DE:HNKG_p) added 0.63% or 0.700 points to end at 112.100 and Merck KGaA (DE:MRCG) was up 0.45% or 0.430 points to 96.030 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Adidas AG NA O.N. (DE:ADSGN), which lost 2.02% or 2.950 points to trade at 142.850 in late trade. Fresenius SE & Co KGAA O.N. (DE:FREG) declined 1.78% or 1.270 points to end at 70.170 and Fresenius Medical Care KGAA ST (DE:FMEG) shed 1.63% or 1.280 points to 77.050.
The top performers on the MDAX were Metro AG ST O.N. (DE:MEOG) which rose 3.63% to 31.270, Wacker Chemie O.N. (DE:WCHG) which was up 3.27% to settle at 91.710 and Kion Group AG (DE:KGX) which gained 1.77% to close at 51.20.
The worst performers were Deutsche Pfandbriefbank AG (DE:PBBG) which was down 7.45% to 9.07 in late trade, Steinhoff International Holdings NV (DE:SNHG) which lost 6.96% to settle at 4.84 and Alstria Office Reit-Ag (DE:AOXG) which was down 3.15% to 11.220 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Carl Zeiss Meditec AG (DE:AFXG) which rose 4.56% to 34.960, STRATEC Biomedical AG (DE:SBSG) which was up 3.91% to settle at 46.350 and S&T AG (F:SANT1) which gained 2.83% to close at 8.710.
The worst performers were Wirecard AG (DE:WDIG) which was down 3.58% to 39.540 in late trade, RIB Software AG Na (DE:RIB) which lost 2.95% to settle at 12.665 and Pfeiffer Vacuum Technology O.N. (DE:PV) which was down 2.80% to 83.790 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 426 to 324 and 18 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 0.93% to 16.67.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was up 0.55% or 6.35 to $1165.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 1.45% or 0.77 to hit $52.21 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 1.09% or 0.61 to trade at $55.11 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.28% to 1.0654, while EUR/GBP fell 0.10% to 0.8386.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.21% at 100.87.
