Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Public Utilities, Basic Materials and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa lost 0.85%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Estacio Participacoes SA (SA:ESTC3), which rose 3.32% or 0.52 points to trade at 16.20 at the close. Kroton Educacional SA (SA:KROT3) added 3.23% or 0.43 points to end at 13.73 and Embraer SA (SA:EMBR3) was up 2.67% or 0.45 points to 17.30 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5), which lost 4.14% or 0.17 points to trade at 3.94 in late trade. Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4) declined 3.84% or 0.18 points to end at 4.51 and Banco Santander Brasil SA Unit (SA:SANB11) shed 3.79% or 0.99 points to 25.14.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 197 to 142 and 45 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 3.36% to 31.65.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.42% or 5.25 to $1253.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 1.08% or 0.55 to hit $51.70 a barrel, while the May US coffee C contract rose 0.50% or 0.68 to trade at $137.75 .
USD/BRL was up 0.88% to 3.1481, while EUR/BRL rose 0.73% to 3.3495.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 100.63.
