Investing.com – Germany equities were mixed at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Basic Resources, Insurance and Technology sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Media, Telecoms and Retail sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX added 0.61% to hit a new 1-month high, while the MDAX index lost 0.74%, and the TecDAX index added 0.25%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (DE:DBKGn), which rose 5.14% or 0.840 points to trade at 17.180 at the close. Commerzbank AG O.N. (DE:CBKG) added 4.25% or 0.324 points to end at 7.948 and Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (DE:VOWG_p) was up 2.75% or 3.100 points to 115.700 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Adidas AG NA O.N. (DE:ADSGN), which lost 1.95% or 1.970 points to trade at 98.880 in late trade. Beiersdorf AG O.N. (DE:BEIG) declined 1.83% or 1.500 points to end at 80.410 and Linde AG O.N. (DE:LING) shed 1.82% or 2.400 points to 129.800.
The top performers on the MDAX were Leoni AG NA O.N. (DE:LEOGn) which rose 6.20% to 28.620, Gerry Weber Internat.O.N. (DE:GWIG) which was up 4.65% to settle at 11.475 and Kloeckner & Co SE NA (DE:KCOGn) which gained 3.86% to close at 8.728.
The worst performers were Symrise AG Inh. O.N. (DE:SY1G) which was down 3.63% to 58.740 in late trade, STADA Arzneimittel VNA O.N. (DE:STAGn) which lost 2.82% to settle at 31.520 and Prosiebensat 1 Media AG (DE:PSMGn) which was down 2.77% to 47.310 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Morphosys AG O.N. (DE:MORG) which rose 10.63% to 41.740, Kontron AG O.N. (DE:KBCG) which was up 6.07% to settle at 3.497 and Pfeiffer Vacuum Technology O.N. (DE:PV) which gained 4.24% to close at 89.460.
The worst performers were Cancom SE O.N. (DE:COKG) which was down 3.89% to 46.500 in late trade, Xing AG (DE:OBCGn) which lost 3.62% to settle at 153.250 and SMA Solar Technology AG (DE:S92G) which was down 2.48% to 42.275 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 464 to 317 and 11 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 3.68% to 24.06 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was up 0.76% or 9.40 to $1240.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 0.23% or 0.08 to hit $34.48 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.27% or 0.10 to trade at $36.71 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.19% to 1.0846, while EUR/GBP fell 0.90% to 0.7720.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.08% at 98.42.
