Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Energy, Financials and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.18%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were DH Corp (TO:DH), which rose 10.95% or 1.78 points to trade at 18.03 at the close. Suncor Energy Inc (TO:SU) added 5.66% or 2.23 points to end at 41.61 and Labrador Iron Ore Royalty Corp (TO:LIF) was up 4.88% or 0.67 points to 14.39 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Intertain Group (TO:IT), which lost 6.46% or 0.57 points to trade at 8.25 in late trade. Alamos Gold Inc (TO:AGI) declined 6.14% or 0.69 points to end at 10.54 and Sleep Country Canada Holdings Inc (TO:ZZZ) shed 6.08% or 1.82 points to 28.11.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 620 to 541 and 134 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 3.84% to 13.77.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.19% or 2.40 to $1269.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.89% or 0.44 to hit $49.62 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.04% or 0.02 to trade at $50.34 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.04% to 0.7469, while CAD/EUR fell 0.03% to 0.6853.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.33% at 98.92.
