Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Mining, Chemicals and Construction & Materials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.34%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were GlaxoSmithKline PLC (LON:GSK), which rose 1.77% or 23.0 points to trade at 1320.5 at the close. GKN PLC (LON:GKN) added 1.63% or 5.00 points to end at 311.10 and Intertek Group PLC (LON:ITRK) was up 1.55% or 80.00 points to 5230.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Provident Financial (LON:PFG), which lost 4.28% or 38.00 points to trade at 850.00 in late trade. Micro Focus International PLC (LON:MCRO) declined 3.69% or 98.00 points to end at 2557.00 and Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) shed 3.42% or 33.50 points to 945.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1210 to 820 and 146 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.63% or 8.08 to $1295.38 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 1.58% or 0.93 to hit $58.02 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.17% or 0.11 to trade at $63.58 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.01% to 1.3335, while EUR/GBP fell 0.15% to 0.8935.
The US Dollar Index Futures was unchanged 0.00% at 92.72.
