Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Household Goods & Home Construction, Electronic & Electrical Equipment and Healthcare Equipment & Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 2.03%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR), which rose 3.30% or 3.78 points to trade at 118.34 at the close. InterContinental Hotels Group PLC (LON:IHG) added 2.70% or 123.0 points to end at 4671.0 and Tui AG (LON:TUIT) was up 2.67% or 6.10 points to 234.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Rentokil Initial PLC (LON:RTO), which lost 2.56% or 15.00 points to trade at 569.80 in late trade. Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO) declined 0.99% or 48.5 points to end at 4854.5 and United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU) shed 0.82% or 9.00 points to 1094.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1415 to 562 and 474 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.65% or 11.55 to $1800.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.46% or 1.04 to hit $72.16 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 1.07% or 0.79 to trade at $74.75 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.64% to 1.3350, while EUR/GBP fell 0.19% to 0.8485.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.39% at 96.110.
