Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Life Insurance/Assurance, Food Producers and Electrical sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.39%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG), which rose 5.66% or 9.10 points to trade at 169.80 at the close. Prudential PLC (LON:PRU) added 4.42% or 30.60 points to end at 722.80 and Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN) was up 2.86% or 18.40 points to 661.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Rentokil Initial PLC (LON:RTO), which lost 7.61% or 34.00 points to trade at 412.90 in late trade. Spirax-Sarco Engineering PLC (LON:SPX) declined 2.86% or 270.00 points to end at 9,180.00 and BAE Systems PLC (LON:BAES) shed 2.50% or 33.00 points to 1,287.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 977 to 728 and 728 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.39% or 9.35 to $2,397.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.08% or 0.07 to hit $82.62 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.31% or 0.27 to trade at $87.02 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.13% to 1.25, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.20% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.10% at 105.87.
