Investing.com – Taiwan equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the , Semiconductor and Optoelectronic sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Taiwan, the Taiwan Weighted lost 1.65%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Taiwan Weighted were Carnival Industrial Corp (TW:1417), which rose 9.96% or 0.51 points to trade at 5.63 at the close. Teapo Electronic Corp (TW:2375) added 9.57% or 3.30 points to end at 37.80 and Jye Tai Precision Industrial Co Ltd (TW:6165) was up 9.41% or 0.80 points to 9.30 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Eclat Textile Co Ltd (TW:1476), which lost 9.89% or 36.50 points to trade at 332.50 in late trade. Nanya Technology Corp (TW:2408) declined 8.23% or 5.10 points to end at 56.90 and Global Unichip Corp (TW:3443) shed 7.87% or 17.00 points to 199.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 671 to 175 and 60 ended unchanged on the Taiwan Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for January delivery was down 1.30% or 0.69 to $52.56 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in February fell 1.35% or 0.84 to hit $61.24 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract fell 0.43% or 5.40 to trade at $1241.20 a troy ounce.
USD/TWD was up 0.11% to 30.805, while TWD/CNY rose 0.32% to 0.2225.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 97.065.
