Investing.com – Taiwan equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Oil, Gas & Electricity, Optoelectronic and Biotech & Medical Care sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Taiwan, the Taiwan Weighted rose 0.90%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Taiwan Weighted were Hannstar Displ (TW:6116), which rose 10.00% or 0.30 points to trade at 3.30 at the close. Phihong (TW:2457) added 10.00% or 0.86 points to end at 9.46 and Microtek Intl (TW:2305) was up 10.00% or 0.70 points to 7.70 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Silergy (TW:6415), which lost 9.98% or 42.00 points to trade at 379.00 in late trade. Crowell (TW:2528) declined 7.22% or 0.60 points to end at 7.71 and Transasia (TW:6702) shed 5.57% or 0.39 points to 6.61.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 585 to 176 and 88 ended unchanged on the Taiwan Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for June delivery was up 1.40% or 0.67 to $48.39 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in July rose 0.94% or 0.46 to hit $49.43 a barrel, while the June Gold contract rose 0.27% or 3.40 to trade at $1277.60 a troy ounce.
USD/TWD was down 0.30% to 32.604, while TWD/CNY rose 0.05% to 0.1996.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.15% at 94.39.
