Investing.com – Taiwan equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Electricity, Iron & Steel and Machinery sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Taiwan, the Taiwan Weighted gained 0.01%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Taiwan Weighted were Jih Lin (TW:5285), which rose 10.00% or 3.45 points to trade at 37.95 at the close. Formosa Sumco (TW:3532) added 8.31% or 3.30 points to end at 43.00 and Hannstar Displ (TW:6116) was up 7.88% or 0.570 points to 7.800 in late trade.
Biggest losers included AP Memory Technology Corp (TW:6531), which lost 5.68% or 4.10 points to trade at 68.10 in late trade. Casetek (TW:5264) declined 5.64% or 5.10 points to end at 85.30 and Shinih (TW:9944) shed 4.74% or 1.00 points to 20.10.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 387 to 342 and 137 ended unchanged on the Taiwan Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for December delivery was up 0.31% or 0.14 to $44.80 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in January rose 0.28% or 0.13 to hit $46.48 a barrel, while the December Gold contract fell 0.47% or 6.15 to trade at $1297.15 a troy ounce.
USD/TWD was down 0.08% to 31.439, while TWD/CNY fell 0.14% to 0.2151.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.06% at 97.25.
