Investing.com – Russia equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Mining, Telecoms and Oil & Gas sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Moscow, the MICEX rose 0.89%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the MICEX were MMC Norilsk Nickel (MCX:GMKN), which rose 4.32% or 458.0 points to trade at 11050.0 at the close. ALROSA ao (MCX:ALRS) added 4.06% or 3.050 points to end at 78.250 and NMTP (MCX:NMTP) was up 2.90% or 0.2500 points to 8.8600 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Aeroflot (MCX:AFLT), which lost 8.39% or 15.10 points to trade at 164.90 in late trade. Yevroplan PAO (MCX:EPLN) declined 4.95% or 38.0 points to end at 729.0 and Lenta Ltd (MCX:LNTADR) shed 1.89% or 7 points to 362.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 115 to 113 and 12 ended unchanged on the Moscow Stock Exchange.
The Russian VIX, which measures the implied volatility of MICEX options, was down 1.01% to 14.770.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.57% or 7.28 to $1277.78 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.07% or 0.04 to hit $54.42 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.28% or 0.17 to trade at $60.77 a barrel.
USD/RUB was down 0.25% to 58.1832, while EUR/RUB fell 0.45% to 67.6323.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.20% at 94.64.
