Investing.com – Portugal equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Financials and Telecoms sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Lisbon, the PSI 20 rose 1.91%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the PSI 20 were Banco Comercial Portugues (LS:BCP), which rose 10.03% or 0.0034 points to trade at 0.0373 at the close. Mota Engil (LS:MOTA) added 5.53% or 0.0990 points to end at 1.8900 and Altri SGPS (LS:ALSS) was up 5.31% or 0.2000 points to 3.9690 in late trade.
Biggest losers included J. Martins SGPS (LS:JMT), which lost 0.48% or 0.0700 points to trade at 14.4800 in late trade. CTT Correios de Portugal SA (LS:CTT) declined 0.34% or 0.0270 points to end at 7.8920 and Montepio (LS:MPIO) 0.00% or 0.000 points to 0.580.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 36 to 10 and 8 ended unchanged on the Lisbon Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Brent oil for June delivery was down 0.92% or 0.41 to $44.28 a barrel. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.83% or 0.35 to hit $41.82 a barrel, while the June Gold contract fell 1.10% or 13.90 to trade at $1247.00 a troy ounce.
EUR/USD was down 0.84% to 1.1287, while EUR/GBP fell 0.50% to 0.7942.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.74% at 94.72.
