Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Consumption and Industrials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa lost 0.47%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Cia Energetica de Minas Gerais (SA:CMIG4), which rose 5.08% or 0.29 points to trade at 6.00 at the close. EDP - Energias do Brasil SA (SA:ENBR3) added 4.07% or 0.50 points to end at 12.80 and Localiza Rent a Car SA (SA:RENT3) was up 3.79% or 0.85 points to 23.29 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Oi SA (SA:OIBR3), which lost 19.31% or 0.39 points to trade at 1.63 in late trade. Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4) declined 10.85% or 0.14 points to end at 1.15 and Bradespar SA (SA:BRAP4) shed 7.45% or 0.31 points to 3.85.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 177 to 98 and 41 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 1.75% to 48.18.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was down 0.27% or 3.40 to $1235.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 2.58% or 0.83 to hit $32.98 a barrel, while the May US coffee C contract fell 0.79% or 0.93 to trade at $116.12 .
USD/BRL was down 0.12% to 3.9545, while EUR/BRL fell 0.00% to 4.3606.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.10% at 97.41.
