Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Marine Transport, Insurance and Communication sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 0.24%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Olympus Corp. (TYO:7733), which rose 9.65% or 221.00 points to trade at 2,510.00 at the close. Toray Industries, Inc. (TYO:3402) added 8.67% or 62.40 points to end at 781.80 and Minebea Mitsumi Inc (TYO:6479) was up 5.91% or 178.00 points to 3,190.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Shimizu Corp. (TYO:1803), which lost 8.90% or 92.70 points to trade at 949.30 in late trade. Taisei Corp. (TYO:1801) declined 8.12% or 487.00 points to end at 5,512.00 and Secom Co., Ltd. (TYO:9735) shed 7.87% or 844.00 points to 9,886.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1962 to 1711 and 208 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 3.54% to 19.88.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for June delivery was down 0.12% or 0.09 to $78.17 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in July fell 0.16% or 0.13 to hit $82.66 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract fell 0.71% or 16.90 to trade at $2,358.10 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.07% to 155.82, while EUR/JPY rose 0.09% to 167.89.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.00% at 105.17.
