Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Paper & Pulp, Railway & Bus and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 1.73% to hit a new 52-week high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Eisai Co., Ltd. (T:4523), which rose 17.91% or 1500.0 points to trade at 9875.0 at the close. Kikkoman Corp. (T:2801) added 7.92% or 430.0 points to end at 5860.0 and Chugai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (T:4519) was up 6.91% or 298.0 points to 4612.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ricoh Co., Ltd. (T:7752), which lost 10.28% or 73.0 points to trade at 637.0 in late trade. Mitsubishi Motors Corp. (T:7211) declined 5.34% or 11.0 points to end at 195.0 and NTN Corp. (T:6472) shed 4.74% or 10.0 points to 201.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2465 to 1039 and 193 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was unchanged 0% to 24.73.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for December delivery was down 1.56% or 0.61 to $38.54 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in January fell 1.48% or 0.61 to hit $40.62 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract rose 0.85% or 16.05 to trade at $1912.25 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.14% to 104.33, while EUR/JPY rose 0.01% to 122.50.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.11% at 93.308.
