Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Paper & Pulp, Railway & Bus and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 1.55%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were NEC Corp. (T:6701), which rose 12.81% or 730.0 points to trade at 6430.0 at the close. TOTO Ltd. (T:5332) added 12.44% or 720.0 points to end at 6510.0 and Yamato Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:9064) was up 9.84% or 256.0 points to 2857.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ajinomoto Co., Inc. (T:2802), which lost 5.28% or 130.5 points to trade at 2342.5 in late trade. East Japan Railway Co. (T:9020) declined 4.78% or 329.0 points to end at 6561.0 and TDK Corp (T:6762) shed 4.68% or 790.0 points to 16090.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2235 to 1297 and 207 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was unchanged 0% to 28.63 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for March delivery was up 0.82% or 0.43 to $52.63 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in April rose 1.04% or 0.57 to hit $55.59 a barrel, while the April Gold Futures contract rose 0.87% or 16.05 to trade at $1866.35 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.03% to 104.72, while EUR/JPY unchanged 0.00% to 127.00.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.01% at 90.543.
