Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Steel, Shipbuilding and Glass sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 1.06%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were TDK Corp (T:6762), which rose 8.07% or 640.0 points to trade at 8570.0 at the close. Advantest Corp. (T:6857) added 7.90% or 181.0 points to end at 2473.0 and NEC Corp. (T:6701) was up 7.04% or 240.0 points to 3650.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma Co Ltd (T:4506), which lost 16.93% or 519.0 points to trade at 2546.0 in late trade. Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (T:7735) declined 10.35% or 535.0 points to end at 4635.0 and Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. (T:9501) shed 7.98% or 58.0 points to 669.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2560 to 944 and 183 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 0.65% to 20.19.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for March delivery was up 0.39% or 0.21 to $54.44 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in April rose 0.54% or 0.33 to hit $61.87 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract rose 0.84% or 11.00 to trade at $1320.90 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.27% to 108.72, while EUR/JPY fell 0.06% to 125.05.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.09% at 94.947.
