Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Power, Fishery and Gas & Water sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.72%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Oji Holdings Corp. (T:3861), which rose 4.01% or 26.0 points to trade at 674.0 at the close. Tokuyama Corp. (T:4043) added 3.65% or 110.0 points to end at 3120.0 and Shiseido Co., Ltd. (T:4911) was up 3.18% or 195.0 points to 6322.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included The Kansai Electric Power Co. (T:9503), which lost 4.05% or 53.5 points to trade at 1268.0 in late trade. Ricoh Co., Ltd. (T:7752) declined 3.87% or 42.0 points to end at 1043.0 and Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd. (T:5801) shed 2.63% or 150.0 points to 5560.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1748 to 1667 and 180 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 30.81% to 27.00.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for May delivery was down 0.67% or 0.44 to $65.44 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in June fell 0.44% or 0.31 to hit $69.50 a barrel, while the April Gold Futures contract fell 0.27% or 3.70 to trade at $1346.20 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.31% to 105.06, while EUR/JPY rose 0.57% to 130.14.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.20% at 88.92.
