Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Insurance, Communication and Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.64%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Meidensha Corp. (T:6508), which rose 3.88% or 58.0 points to trade at 1552.0 at the close. Softbank Corp. (T:9984) added 3.70% or 326.0 points to end at 9145.0 and The Chiba Bank, Ltd. (T:8331) was up 3.64% or 26.0 points to 740.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Shionogi & Co., Ltd. (T:4507), which lost 5.20% or 399.0 points to trade at 7270.0 in late trade. Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma Co Ltd (T:4506) declined 4.29% or 123.0 points to end at 2743.0 and Pioneer Corp. (T:6773) shed 3.19% or 3.0 points to 91.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2404 to 1067 and 214 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 0.54% to 20.40.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for January delivery was down 1.45% or 0.75 to $50.88 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in February fell 1.25% or 0.76 to hit $59.80 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract fell 0.19% or 2.30 to trade at $1226.40 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was unchanged 0.00% to 113.59, while EUR/JPY fell 0.13% to 128.49.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 97.143.
