Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Paper & Pulp, Chemical and Pharmaceutical Industry sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.58%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Showa Shell Sekiyu K.K. (T:5002), which rose 4.94% or 100.0 points to trade at 2125.0 at the close. Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd. (T:5801) added 4.55% or 155.0 points to end at 3560.0 and Isuzu Motors, Ltd. (T:7202) was up 4.51% or 72.0 points to 1669.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Yamato Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:9064), which lost 3.11% or 106.0 points to trade at 3306.0 in late trade. Oji Holdings Corp. (T:3861) declined 2.89% or 21.0 points to end at 706.0 and Nippon Paper Industries Co., Ltd. (T:3863) shed 2.19% or 43.0 points to 1921.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2515 to 898 and 190 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 6.76% to 15.87.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for October delivery was up 0.67% or 0.44 to $66.28 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in October rose 0.92% or 0.67 to hit $73.30 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract rose 0.02% or 0.20 to trade at $1200.20 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.13% to 110.39, while EUR/JPY fell 0.02% to 127.55.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.13% at 95.25.
