Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Fishery, Banking and Glass sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.39%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings Ltd. (T:3099), which rose 9.35% or 113.0 points to trade at 1322.0 at the close. Mitsubishi Motors Corp. (T:7211) added 9.24% or 72.5 points to end at 857.5 and Tokai Carbon Co., Ltd. (T:5301) was up 7.86% or 126.0 points to 1729.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Furukawa Co., Ltd. (T:5715), which lost 14.80% or 324.0 points to trade at 1865.0 in late trade. Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd. (T:5801) declined 9.83% or 525.0 points to end at 4815.0 and Nisshinbo Holdings Inc. (T:3105) shed 7.34% or 117.0 points to 1478.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1679 to 1646 and 241 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 0.61% to 14.95.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for June delivery was up 0.67% or 0.48 to $71.62 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in July rose 0.62% or 0.48 to hit $77.69 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to trade at $1313.00 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.15% to 109.88, while EUR/JPY rose 0.31% to 130.43.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.09% at 92.87.
