Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Paper & Pulp, Railway & Bus and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.28%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (T:7735), which rose 4.56% or 330.0 points to trade at 7570.0 at the close. Hitachi Construction Machinery Co (T:6305) added 3.78% or 107.0 points to end at 2935.0 and Tokyo Tatemono Co., Ltd. (T:8804) was up 3.76% or 60.0 points to 1655.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Yahoo Japan Corp. (T:4689), which lost 3.13% or 12.0 points to trade at 371.0 in late trade. JGC Corp. (T:1963) declined 2.64% or 43.0 points to end at 1587.0 and Olympus Corp. (T:7733) shed 2.36% or 39.5 points to 1636.5.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2283 to 1213 and 269 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was unchanged 0.00% to 14.43.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for January delivery was down 0.17% or 0.10 to $58.31 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in February fell 0.14% or 0.09 to hit $63.12 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract fell 0.04% or 0.65 to trade at $1466.75 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.12% to 109.17, while EUR/JPY rose 0.08% to 120.22.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.10% at 98.265.
