Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Electrical/Machinery, Steel and Transportation Equipment sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.26%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Tokai Carbon Co., Ltd. (T:5301), which rose 5.10% or 36.0 points to trade at 742.0 at the close. Showa Denko K.K. (T:4004) added 4.55% or 128.0 points to end at 2939.0 and Toray Industries, Inc. (T:3402) was up 3.82% or 37.7 points to 1023.5 in late trade.
Biggest losers included JFE Holdings, Inc. (T:5411), which lost 3.50% or 78.0 points to trade at 2153.0 in late trade. Unitika, Ltd. (T:3103) declined 2.41% or 2.0 points to end at 81.0 and Nippon Yusen K.K (T:9101) shed 2.29% or 5.0 points to 213.5.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1836 to 1314 and 303 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 6.32% to 16.30.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for October delivery was down 0.36% or 0.17 to $47.66 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in October fell 0.40% or 0.21 to hit $51.66 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract rose 0.03% or 0.40 to trade at $1291.40 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.16% to 109.40, while EUR/JPY rose 0.02% to 128.90.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.09% at 93.34.
