Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Transportation Equipment, Shipbuilding and Insurance sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 0.97%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Toshiba Corp. (T:6502), which rose 5.07% or 14.1 points to trade at 292.2 at the close. Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd. (T:5713) added 4.00% or 45.5 points to end at 1183.5 and The Japan Steel Works, Ltd. (T:5631) was up 2.67% or 13.0 points to 499.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included NTN Corp. (T:6472), which lost 4.94% or 17.0 points to trade at 327.0 in late trade. NSK Ltd. (T:6471) declined 4.37% or 40.0 points to end at 876.0 and Credit Saison Co., Ltd. (T:8253) shed 4.13% or 85.0 points to 1971.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1298 to 562 and 137 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 1.64% to 26.66.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for July delivery was up 0.76% or 0.39 to $51.62 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in August rose 0.61% or 0.32 to hit $52.83 a barrel, while the August Gold contract rose 0.20% or 2.50 to trade at $1264.80 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.22% to 106.75, while EUR/JPY fell 0.23% to 121.66.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.06% at 93.53.
