India stocks lower at close of trade; S&P CNX Nifty down 0.79%

Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Capital Goods, Real Estate and Metals sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the S&P CNX Nifty declined 0.79%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.91%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P CNX Nifty were IDFC LIMITED (NSE:IDFC), which rose 2.64% or 4.05 points to trade at 157.20 at the close. Meanwhile, Tech Mahindra Limited (NSE:TEML) added 2.20% or 11.00 points to end at 511.05 and Bank Of Baroda (NSE:BOB) was up 1.96% or 3.00 points to 155.75 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were ICICI Bank Ltd . (NSE:ICBK), which fell 3.93% or 12.30 points to trade at 300.60 at the close. Wipro Ltd . (NSE:WIPR) declined 3.79% or 22.30 points to end at 566.75 and Lupin Ltd (NSE:LUPN) was down 3.25% or 56.15 points to 1672.10.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which rose 0.99% to 835.75, Hero MotoCorp Limited (BO:HROM) which was up 0.88% to settle at 2738.20 and Cipla Ltd. (BO:CIPL) which gained 0.68% to close at 678.30.

The worst performers were ICICI Bank Ltd. (BO:ICBK) which was down 3.96% to 300.50 in late trade, Wipro Ltd. (BO:WIPR) which lost 3.73% to settle at 566.45 and Tata Motors Ltd. (BO:TAMO) which was down 2.54% to 391.15 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 908 to 536 and 8 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 499 fell and 262 advanced, while 1 ended unchanged.

The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of S&P CNX Nifty options, was down 0.40% to 15.4575.

Gold for August delivery was down 1.30% or 14.20 to $1079.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.31% or 0.15 to hit $48.60 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.43% or 0.24 to trade at $55.03 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.20% to 64.040, while EUR/INR fell 0.22% to 70.0500.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.31% at 97.58.
