Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Metals, Oil & Gas and Real Estate sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the S&P CNX Nifty fell 0.16%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.21%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P CNX Nifty were IDFC LIMITED (NS:IDFC), which rose 2.50% or 1.50 points to trade at 61.60 at the close. Meanwhile, Tata Power Co. Ltd (NS:TTPW) added 2.09% or 1.45 points to end at 70.90 and POWER GRID CORPORATION OF INDIA (NS:PGRD) was up 1.57% or 2.10 points to 135.90 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Vedanta Ltd (NS:VDAN), which fell 6.38% or 6.90 points to trade at 101.25 at the close. Cairn India Limited (NS:CAIL) declined 3.88% or 6.20 points to end at 153.55 and TATA STEEL LIMITED (NS:TISC) was down 3.06% or 7.60 points to 240.80.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Power Co. Ltd (BO:TTPW) which rose 2.24% to 70.85, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was up 1.60% to settle at 2526.70 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which gained 1.22% to close at 4515.00.
The worst performers were Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which was down 6.42% to 101.25 in late trade, TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) which lost 2.96% to settle at 240.80 and Hindalco Industries Ltd. (BO:HALC) which was down 2.37% to 84.40 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 754 to 703 and 13 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 394 fell and 394 advanced, while 7 ended unchanged.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of S&P CNX Nifty options, was up 0.70% to 16.9950.
Gold for December delivery was up 0.14% or 1.70 to $1174.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.04% or 0.02 to hit $46.26 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.39% or 0.19 to trade at $48.42 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.11% to 64.990, while EUR/INR rose 0.58% to 73.9620.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.36% at 94.67.
