Investing.com – India equities were mixed at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Metals, Capital Goods and Green Energy sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the IT, Real Estate and Technology sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.06% to hit a new 3-month high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.06%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC), which rose 4.44% or 18.70 points to trade at 440.10 at the close. UPL Ltd (NS:UPLL) added 2.16% or 16.15 points to end at 765.30 and Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) was up 2.07% or 4.45 points to 219.85 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN), which lost 2.63% or 192.80 points to trade at 7,149.40 in late trade. NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC) declined 2.35% or 3.75 points to end at 155.65 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) shed 1.98% or 2.70 points to 133.80.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which rose 1.91% to 109.25, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was up 1.50% to settle at 714.95 and ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which gained 1.45% to close at 848.50.
The worst performers were Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which was down 2.66% to 7,147.75 in late trade, NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which lost 2.20% to settle at 155.70 and HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which was down 1.41% to 952.50 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1058 to 777 and 42 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1806 fell and 1468 advanced, while 118 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 1.48% to 19.59 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.31% or 5.65 to $1,806.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 1.28% or 1.16 to hit $89.34 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 1.21% or 1.17 to trade at $95.14 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.09% to 79.50, while EUR/INR rose 0.21% to 81.42.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.25% at 105.99.
