Investing.com – India equities were mixed at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods, Auto and Oil & Gas sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Banking, Metals and Carbon sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.05% to hit a new all time high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.05%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:BAJA), which rose 5.72% or 264.65 points to trade at 4,890.05 at the close. Divi's Laboratories Ltd. (NS:DIVI) added 5.57% or 197.85 points to end at 3,747.95 and Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NS:HROM) was up 4.24% or 128.40 points to 3,158.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included HDFC Bank Ltd (NS:HDBK), which lost 3.18% or 54.90 points to trade at 1,673.30 in late trade. Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NS:HDFC) declined 3.07% or 88.70 points to end at 2,796.15 and Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH) shed 2.71% or 92.05 points to 3,309.75.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which rose 3.61% to 9,994.50, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was up 2.38% to settle at 1,399.95 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which gained 2.37% to close at 1,175.40.
The worst performers were HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which was down 3.20% to 1,673.30 in late trade, Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which lost 2.93% to settle at 2,796.40 and Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BO:BJFS) which was down 0.80% to 1,616.45 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1178 to 770 and 62 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1882 rose and 1487 declined, while 127 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 1.56% to 11.88 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.30% or 5.75 to $1,935.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 2.06% or 1.44 to hit $71.23 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.22% or 0.17 to trade at $76.08 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.24% to 82.26, while EUR/INR rose 0.40% to 89.53.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.15% at 102.81.
