Investing.com – India equities were mixed at the close on Monday, as gains in the Consumer Durables, Auto and IT sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Power, Capital Goods and Banking sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.01%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.14%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC), which rose 3.73% or 7.15 points to trade at 199.00 at the close. Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO) added 3.40% or 15.20 points to end at 462.90 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) was up 2.99% or 39.75 points to 1370.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (NS:HPCL), which lost 2.60% or 11.60 points to trade at 434.05 in late trade. Yes Bank Ltd (NS:YESB) declined 1.93% or 6.30 points to end at 319.65 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) shed 1.82% or 10.05 points to 541.20.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which rose 3.81% to 198.65, Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which was up 3.28% to settle at 461.55 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which gained 2.49% to close at 1364.35.
The worst performers were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was down 1.96% to 541.40 in late trade, NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which lost 1.81% to settle at 178.85 and Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was down 1.59% to 532.75 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 813 to 778 and 17 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1395 rose and 1375 declined, while 147 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 9.34% to 13.0225 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.21% or 2.63 to $1271.83 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.61% or 0.34 to hit $55.98 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.68% or 0.42 to trade at $62.49 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.03% to 64.685, while EUR/INR rose 0.15% to 75.0654.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.02% at 94.81.
