Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods, Real Estate and Carbon sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.90%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 1.13%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH), which rose 1.92% or 538.95 points to trade at 28598.50 at the close. Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN) added 1.88% or 21.15 points to end at 1146.60 and HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT) was up 1.40% or 12.15 points to 880.70 in late trade.
Biggest losers included ITC Ltd (NS:ITC), which lost 12.49% or 40.60 points to trade at 284.55 in late trade. Aurobindo Pharma Ltd. (NS:ARBN) declined 1.70% or 12.80 points to end at 734.30 and Reliance Industries Ltd (NS:RELI) shed 2.05% or 31.85 points to 1519.90.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which rose 1.82% to 1146.00, AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was up 1.18% to settle at 517.00 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which gained 1.18% to close at 578.05.
The worst performers were ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was down 12.63% to 284.60 in late trade, Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which lost 2.03% to settle at 1519.90 and Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which was down 1.81% to 378.00 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1019 to 542 and 3 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1653 fell and 968 advanced, while 128 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.28% to 11.4900.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.28% or 3.42 to $1237.12 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.37% or 0.17 to hit $46.19 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.43% or 0.21 to trade at $48.63 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.02% to 64.324, while EUR/INR rose 0.67% to 74.3547.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.52% at 94.43.
