Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Banking, Healthcare and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.27%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.25%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS:TCS), which rose 2.23% or 51.10 points to trade at 2340.00 at the close. Ambuja Cements Ltd. (NS:ABUJ) added 1.91% or 3.85 points to end at 205.00 and UltraTech Cement Ltd (NS:ULTC) was up 1.84% or 57.20 points to 3164.90 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Idea Cellular Ltd (NS:IDEA), which lost 3.93% or 3.00 points to trade at 73.40 in late trade. Aurobindo Pharma Ltd. (NS:ARBN) declined 3.64% or 25.45 points to end at 673.25 and Bosch Ltd (NS:BOSH) shed 3.08% or 610.80 points to 19211.40.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which rose 2.20% to 2337.75, Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which was up 1.11% to settle at 429.50 and ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which gained 1.01% to close at 229.40.
The worst performers were State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was down 2.62% to 254.55 in late trade, ICICI Bank Ltd. (BO:ICBK) which lost 2.18% to settle at 251.60 and Bajaj Auto Limited (BO:BAJA) which was down 2.13% to 2590.00 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1052 to 429 and 57 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1743 fell and 818 advanced, while 137 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 2.02% to 14.5375 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was down 0.68% or 7.75 to $1134.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.19% or 0.10 to hit $53.16 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.51% or 0.28 to trade at $55.20 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.26% to 68.020, while EUR/INR rose 0.09% to 70.6483.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.26% at 103.34.
