Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Real Estate, Metals and Banking sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 3.06% to hit a new 1-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 3.00%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS:TCS), which rose 1.05% or 38.80 points to trade at 3733.75 at the close. Divi's Laboratories Ltd. (NS:DIVI) fell 0.33% or 14.25 points to end at 4277.00 and Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) was down 0.38% or 3.60 points to 954.90 in late trade.
Biggest losers included JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL), which lost 6.68% or 44.85 points to trade at 626.55 in late trade. HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:HDFL) declined 6.39% or 38.05 points to end at 557.30 and ITC Ltd (NS:ITC) shed 5.59% or 13.00 points to 219.45.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which rose 1.05% to 3734.25, Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which was down 0.85% to settle at 17663.75 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which lost 1.34% to close at 2227.25.
The worst performers were ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was down 5.57% to 219.40 in late trade, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which lost 5.49% to settle at 1185.90 and Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which was down 5.33% to 2297.25 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1724 to 136 and 16 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2896 fell and 554 advanced, while 117 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 23.01% to 22.9775 a new 6-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.75% or 13.75 to $1855.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.06% or 0.06 to hit $93.16 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.03% or 0.03 to trade at $94.47 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.28% to 75.559, while EUR/INR rose 0.01% to 85.4905.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.18% at 96.245.
