Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the IT, Technology and Metals sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 2.57%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 2.77%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI), which rose 4.33% or 8.50 points to trade at 204.65 at the close. Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NS:HROM) added 2.62% or 57.40 points to end at 2245.00 and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE) was up 2.12% or 3.50 points to 168.65 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML), which lost 5.32% or 29.00 points to trade at 515.75 in late trade. Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY) declined 5.18% or 35.95 points to end at 658.20 and Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) shed 4.82% or 5.95 points to 117.60.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Hero MotoCorp Ltd (BO:HROM) which rose 2.45% to 2245.00, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was up 1.48% to settle at 5109.70 and UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:ULTC) which gained 1.05% to close at 3590.00.
The worst performers were Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which was down 5.26% to 515.75 in late trade, Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which lost 5.16% to settle at 658.10 and Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which was down 4.69% to 1632.50 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 903 to 586 and 99 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1276 fell and 927 advanced, while 146 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.68% to 38.1825.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.45% or 7.75 to $1724.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 4.35% or 1.10 to hit $26.39 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 3.94% or 1.15 to trade at $30.34 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.13% to 75.458, while EUR/INR fell 0.04% to 81.4760.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.11% at 100.398.
