Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Banking, Metals and Real Estate sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 1.91%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 1.94%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML), which rose 2.62% or 25.50 points to trade at 997.55 at the close. SBI Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:SBIL) added 2.34% or 20.15 points to end at 883.00 and Wipro Ltd (NS:WIPR) was up 2.00% or 8.75 points to 446.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO), which lost 4.44% or 12.40 points to trade at 266.75 in late trade. Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) declined 4.28% or 27.90 points to end at 624.05 and Titan Company Ltd (NS:TITN) shed 4.19% or 62.85 points to 1437.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which rose 2.57% to 997.00, ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was up 1.35% to settle at 210.70 and HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which gained 1.03% to close at 957.85.
The worst performers were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was down 4.26% to 815.00 in late trade, Titan Company Ltd (BO:TITN) which lost 4.16% to settle at 1437.00 and AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was down 4.05% to 631.90 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1082 to 554 and 64 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1754 fell and 1036 advanced, while 134 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 4.94% to 24.3925.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.35% or 6.40 to $1844.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.70% or 0.37 to hit $52.98 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.74% or 0.41 to trade at $56.05 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.02% to 72.928, while EUR/INR fell 0.23% to 88.4430.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.23% at 90.358.
