Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Metals, Real Estate and Auto sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 1.80% to hit a new 1-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 1.64%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN), which rose 1.26% or 42.80 points to trade at 3,438.05 at the close. HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT) added 1.21% or 10.85 points to end at 906.70 and Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY) was up 1.08% or 14.80 points to 1,380.25 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO), which lost 6.05% or 25.60 points to trade at 397.50 in late trade. Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) declined 5.79% or 22.95 points to end at 373.40 and Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE) shed 5.52% or 50.40 points to 863.40.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which rose 1.28% to 906.90, Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which was up 1.14% to settle at 3,432.50 and Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which gained 1.06% to close at 1,379.75.
The worst performers were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was down 5.49% to 8,830.60 in late trade, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which lost 4.22% to settle at 99.85 and ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was down 3.96% to 332.55 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1722 to 168 and 25 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2808 fell and 633 advanced, while 117 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 6.31% to 21.89 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.52% or 8.60 to $1,647.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.27% or 0.21 to hit $78.53 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.38% or 0.32 to trade at $84.71 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.38% to 81.57, while EUR/INR rose 0.04% to 78.76.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.42% at 113.43.
