Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Real Estate, Auto and Green Energy sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 1.69%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 1.59%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN), which rose 1.11% or 4.60 points to trade at 420.15 at the close. Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD) added 0.03% or 0.05 points to end at 183.50 and HDFC Bank Ltd (NS:HDBK) was down 0.11% or 2.40 points to 2097.05 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Indiabulls Housing Finance Ltd (NS:INBF), which lost 5.97% or 46.35 points to trade at 733.35 in late trade. Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NS:MRTI) declined 4.67% or 353.05 points to end at 7209.70 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML) shed 4.38% or 31.85 points to 696.40.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which rose 1.57% to 420.10, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was down 0.05% to settle at 183.30 and HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which lost 0.35% to close at 2092.00.
The worst performers were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was down 4.63% to 7209.70 in late trade, Tata Motors Ltd DVR (BO:TAMdv) which lost 4.22% to settle at 88.60 and Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which was down 4.02% to 162.40 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1258 to 328 and 54 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1752 fell and 717 advanced, while 140 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 4.98% to 19.3050.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.06% or 0.80 to $1241.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 4.42% or 2.34 to hit $50.55 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 4.47% or 2.75 to trade at $58.81 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.30% to 70.875, while EUR/INR rose 0.29% to 80.2660.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.11% at 97.115.
