Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Banking, Carbon and Oil & Gas sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 1.64%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 1.77%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO), which rose 6.74% or 7.05 points to trade at 111.70 at the close. Titan Company Ltd (NS:TITN) added 3.26% or 34.00 points to end at 1077.25 and Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) was up 1.54% or 5.65 points to 371.95 in late trade.
Biggest losers included UPL Ltd (NS:UPLL), which lost 5.36% or 25.65 points to trade at 452.50 in late trade. IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) declined 3.74% or 19.60 points to end at 504.15 and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NS:KTKM) shed 3.57% or 48.75 points to 1317.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Titan Company Ltd (BO:TITN) which rose 3.19% to 1076.55, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was up 1.87% to settle at 373.25 and HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which gained 0.43% to close at 708.50.
The worst performers were Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which was down 4.41% to 1307.20 in late trade, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which lost 3.67% to settle at 504.40 and AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was down 3.30% to 417.35 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 872 to 728 and 83 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1346 rose and 1157 declined, while 160 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 4.10% to 25.1850.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for October delivery was down 0.01% or 0.10 to $1973.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.77% or 0.31 to hit $39.96 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.51% or 0.22 to trade at $43.30 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.47% to 75.267, while EUR/INR fell 0.01% to 88.2545.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.47% at 93.763.
