Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Real Estate, Public Sector Undertakings and Metals sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 1.54% to hit a new 1-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 1.47%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL), which rose 6.97% or 91.75 points to trade at 1,408.00 at the close. Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) added 4.05% or 53.75 points to end at 1,379.90 and Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) was up 3.14% or 35.25 points to 1,159.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK), which lost 6.18% or 94.90 points to trade at 1,440.45 in late trade. Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) declined 5.58% or 22.25 points to end at 376.55 and SBI Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:SBIL) shed 4.66% or 67.20 points to 1,375.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which rose 3.67% to 1,374.55, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was up 3.37% to settle at 1,160.80 and ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which gained 2.10% to close at 1,029.45.
The worst performers were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was down 5.87% to 1,443.95 in late trade, State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which lost 4.19% to settle at 605.05 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which was down 3.81% to 2,375.15 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1835 to 353 and 21 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2872 fell and 921 advanced, while 136 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 7.61% to 14.85.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.28% or 5.75 to $2,027.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.66% or 0.49 to hit $74.27 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.62% or 0.50 to trade at $79.56 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.06% to 83.17, while EUR/INR rose 0.08% to 90.53.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.05% at 103.07.
