Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Power, Green Energy and Real Estate sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 1.53% to hit a new 3-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 1.53%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were ITC Ltd (NS:ITC), which rose 0.42% or 1.60 points to trade at 383.85 at the close. Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:BAJA) added 0.26% or 9.90 points to end at 3,847.00 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NS:MRTI) was down 0.07% or 6.40 points to 8,663.45 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Adani Enterprises Ltd (NS:ADEL), which lost 10.58% or 166.25 points to trade at 1,404.85 in late trade. Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE) declined 6.19% or 36.10 points to end at 547.10 and Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:GRAS) shed 3.61% or 59.00 points to 1,574.15.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which rose 0.41% to 383.85, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was down 0.16% to settle at 8,654.80 and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which lost 0.17% to close at 4,479.30.
The worst performers were Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which was down 2.86% to 6,198.60 in late trade, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which lost 2.45% to settle at 1,318.65 and Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BO:BJFS) which was down 2.37% to 1,360.65 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1543 to 374 and 55 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2413 fell and 932 advanced, while 128 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 11.28% to 15.59.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.04% or 0.65 to $1,843.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 1.56% or 1.19 to hit $75.17 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 1.38% or 1.15 to trade at $81.90 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.08% to 82.91, while EUR/INR rose 0.01% to 88.20.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.08% at 104.19.
