Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Auto, Green Energy and Metals sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 1.39% to hit a new 3-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 1.41%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Axis Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK), which rose 1.90% or 18.15 points to trade at 973.60 at the close. Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE) added 0.34% or 2.65 points to end at 771.75 and ITC Ltd (NS:ITC) was down 0.01% or 0.05 points to 432.65 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM), which lost 3.89% or 61.10 points to trade at 1,508.00 in late trade. Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN) declined 3.74% or 287.45 points to end at 7,407.00 and Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN) shed 3.59% or 109.80 points to 2,951.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Axis Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which rose 1.74% to 971.95, ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was up 0.35% to settle at 434.10 and HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which gained 0.20% to close at 1,231.45.
The worst performers were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 4.06% to 1,504.85 in late trade, Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which lost 3.54% to settle at 7,421.15 and Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which was down 3.36% to 2,958.40 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1183 to 865 and 57 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2132 fell and 1394 advanced, while 135 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 3.69% to 11.73.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.06% or 1.25 to $1,996.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 1.24% or 1.06 to hit $84.33 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 1.11% or 1.00 to trade at $89.13 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.18% to 83.24, while EUR/INR fell 0.09% to 87.72.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.24% at 106.61.
