Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Real Estate and Healthcare sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 1.30% to hit a new 3-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 1.25%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM), which rose 2.94% or 39.05 points to trade at 1365.40 at the close. Bharti Infratel Limited (NS:BHRI) added 2.70% or 9.600 points to end at 365.050 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) was up 1.30% or 15.75 points to 1230.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC), which lost 4.06% or 11.75 points to trade at 277.40 in late trade. Tata Motors DV Ltd (NS:TAMdv) declined 3.60% or 12.55 points to end at 336.00 and Bank Of Baroda (NS:BOB) shed 3.41% or 5.30 points to 150.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which rose 3.54% to 1369.35, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which was up 0.74% to settle at 841.45 and NTPC Limited (BO:NTPC) which gained 0.74% to close at 156.10.
The worst performers were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which was down 4.10% to 277.35 in late trade, Tata Motors Ltd. (BO:TAMO) which lost 3.19% to settle at 514.00 and State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was down 2.75% to 251.30 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1240 to 263 and 40 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1936 fell and 934 advanced, while 104 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 6.75% to 16.7975 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.70% or 9.05 to $1297.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 1.52% or 0.71 to hit $45.96 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 1.50% or 0.72 to trade at $47.42 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.11% to 66.770, while EUR/INR rose 0.35% to 73.9910.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.27% at 97.50.
