Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Auto, Metals and Fast Moving Consumer Goods sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 1.30%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 1.22%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT), which rose 1.54% or 16.50 points to trade at 1088.70 at the close. AXIS Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK) added 0.92% or 5.95 points to end at 651.75 and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE) was up 0.66% or 3.10 points to 472.75 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN), which lost 4.98% or 136.60 points to trade at 2615.65 in late trade. Indiabulls Housing Finance Ltd (NS:INBF) declined 4.23% or 51.30 points to end at 1161.25 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) shed 3.99% or 26.50 points to 638.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which rose 0.99% to 651.55, Wipro Ltd (BO:WIPR) which was up 0.26% to settle at 324.90 and Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which gained 0.09% to close at 323.75.
The worst performers were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was down 3.72% to 639.50 in late trade, Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which lost 3.44% to settle at 223.10 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 3.44% to 940.00 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1090 to 538 and 46 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1639 fell and 1000 advanced, while 163 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 9.45% to 15.2025 a new 3-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.12% or 1.50 to $1198.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.62% or 0.42 to hit $68.17 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.77% or 0.59 to trade at $77.42 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.44% to 72.425, while EUR/INR rose 1.06% to 83.8365.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.09% at 95.29.
