Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Power, Auto and Fast Moving Consumer Goods sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 1.21%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 1.11%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC), which rose 4.42% or 5.60 points to trade at 132.40 at the close. Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:REDY) added 1.94% or 83.95 points to end at 4,419.65 and Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) was up 1.42% or 15.80 points to 1,130.75 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH), which lost 5.67% or 208.25 points to trade at 3,463.35 in late trade. Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE) declined 4.42% or 36.25 points to end at 784.40 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NS:MRTI) shed 3.18% or 281.15 points to 8,547.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which rose 1.99% to 4,420.15, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was up 0.46% to settle at 803.45 and NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which gained 0.41% to close at 160.40.
The worst performers were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was down 3.16% to 8,544.40 in late trade, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which lost 2.77% to settle at 2,622.20 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was down 2.55% to 1,156.10 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1242 to 606 and 61 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2008 fell and 1392 advanced, while 149 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 7.00% to 21.36.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.01% or 0.15 to $1,672.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 3.85% or 3.06 to hit $82.55 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 3.65% or 3.11 to trade at $88.25 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.37% to 81.81, while EUR/INR rose 0.15% to 79.99.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 112.28.
