Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the IT, Technology and Green Energy sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 1.17%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 1.31%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Larsen & Toubro Ltd (NS:LART), which rose 3.88% or 96.55 points to trade at 2,586.25 at the close. Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) added 2.00% or 3.35 points to end at 170.55 and NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC) was up 1.14% or 2.20 points to 195.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY), which lost 8.13% or 117.90 points to trade at 1,331.60 in late trade. Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML) declined 4.62% or 57.85 points to end at 1,195.10 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS:HLL) shed 3.67% or 99.25 points to 2,604.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which rose 3.88% to 2,586.25, NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was up 1.09% to settle at 195.05 and State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which gained 0.78% to close at 614.70.
The worst performers were Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was down 8.18% to 1,330.40 in late trade, Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which lost 4.66% to settle at 1,194.35 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which was down 3.65% to 2,603.80 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1037 to 873 and 62 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1695 fell and 1568 advanced, while 121 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 2.55% to 11.48.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.27% or 5.35 to $1,965.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.20% or 0.91 to hit $76.56 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 1.12% or 0.89 to trade at $80.53 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.23% to 81.97, while EUR/INR fell 0.16% to 91.20.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 100.77.
